Itinerary :

Day 1: Auckland: Welcome to the island nation of New Zealand! You will arrive in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, set between two harbours with gentle sandy shores on the east coast and black sand, wild surf beaches on the west coast. Home to sheltered, sparkling blue waters dotted with beautiful emerald islands. Collect your rental vehicle and self drive to hotel & check-in. Overnight in Auckland.

Day 2: Auckland – Waitomo – Hobbiton – Rotorua: Today embark on a journey through the rolling green hills of Waitomo and enjoy a tour through an underground wonderland of caves decorated with galaxies of glowworms. Continue to Matamata for a charming tour of unique, character Hobbit homes, gardens and the watering hole just as you see in the movies. Finishing off a visually fulfilling day, proceed to Rotorua. Overnight in Rotorua.

Day 3: Rotorua: Today drive along spectacular views of Rotorua, where you will where you will come across incredible geothermal landscape with its unique steam vents, spouting geysers and bubbling mud pool set alongside freshwater lakes and majestic native forests. It is also a region immersed in fascinating Maori myths and legends. Visit one of the local geothermal attractions before a sensory evening display in the forest. Overnight in Rotorua

Day 4: Rotorua-Christchurch: Today depart from Rotorua on your domestic flight to Christchurch (flight not included). Christchurch set on New Zealands south island is a vibrant, ever-changing city with inner city parks and gardens delightfully interwoven by the meandering Avon River. Upon arrival check into your hotel, you can enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Overnight in Christchurch.

Day 5: Christchurch – Glacier Region: Today depart from Christchurch enroute the Canterbury Plains, a fertile patchwork made with every shade of green, through the spectacular scenery of Arthurs Pass National Park and on to the West Coast. New Zealand’s rugged West Coast is a wild and untamed place known for its rivers, rainforests, glaciers and geological treasures. Overnight in in Glacier Region.

Day 6: Glacier Region: Enjoy the entire day at leisure to explore the magnificent glaciers of the mighty Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. Visit the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, for an absolute bucket list experience. You could opt for any of the optional activities (on extra charges). Overnight in Glacier Region.

Day 7: Glacier Region – Queenstown: Travel through wilderness towns, waterfalls and river scenery on today’s scenic journey to Queenstown. You can take an optional halt at Makarora’s Blue Pools before continuing on to Queenstown. Overnight in Queenstown.

Day 8: Queenstown: Today explore the magnificent vistas and majestic mountains that dominates this compact alpine resort town, with such an expansive natural physical environment it is not surprising that Queenstown has been described as the Adventure Capital of the World. Overnight in Queenstown.

Day 9: Queenstown – Milford – Queenstown: Today’s breathtaking drive passes mirror lakes, magnificent waterfalls, and water-sculpted rocks. Explore the fasinating Milford Sound, a New Zealand treasure carved by ice age glaciers and is famously described as the eighth wonder of the world. On arrival, board your vessel for a cruise of the fiord surrounded by towering mountains and cliffs that plunge into the sea. Lunch is included. Return to downtown Queenstown. Overnight in Queenstown. (L)

Day 10: Queenstown – Tekapo/Mt Cook Region: Today depart from Queenstown to a scenic wonderland with golden tussocks, snow-capped mountains and turquoise lakes. After that, follow the stunning Lake Pukaki shoreline to a rugged land of ice and rock, home to Aoraki Mt Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain. Overnight in Tekapo or Mt Cook Region.

Day 11: Tekapo/ Mt Cook – Christchurch: Depart Mt Cook and stop on the shores of Lake Tekapo to visit the ‘Church of the Good Shepherd’. Continue your drive across north east where braided rivers and familiar plains will signal your arrival back into Christchurch. Overnight in Christchurch.

Day 12: Christchurch: Your tour concludes today with the return of your rental car to Christchurch Airport.

Tours to Mt Cook do not operate daily. Self drive rental vehicle touring is calculated on a 24 hour ‘per day’ hire period. Early flight arrival and/or late departure times may necessitate an additional hire day.
